Terry Christian has expressed his heartbreak at the attack which claimed the lives of 22 people in Manchester on Monday night.
A number of children were among the dead after a suicide bomber attacked crowds leaving the Manchester Arena following a concert by US star Ariana Grande.
The first victim has been named by Greater Manchester Police as 16-year-old Georgina Callander.
Christian, a broadcaster who comes from Manchester and is synonymous with the city's cultural scene, said the audience in the concert will have been "so young, as young as eight or nine."
He called the incident and the man behind it "absolute evil" in an interview with Paul Ross.
