The railway station attached to the arena targeted in last week’s terror attack in Manchester has reopened.
Manchester Victoria was closed down in the wake of Salman Abedi’s attack on the adjacent Manchester Arena, as revellers left a concert by US singer Ariana Grande. Abedi detonated a homemade explosive in the foyer between the station and the arena, killing 22 people and injured dozens of others.
A forensic investigation had been taking place in the area.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham called the response “truly phenomenal," adding that tthe country had seen the “best of our people, our public services,” because “the whole place has pulled together and helped everybody in our darkest week.”
He said the true character of Manchester has made him proud, and he now wants to use the city’s “togetherness” to better fight extremism.
