Carl Beech has been jailed for 18 years after being convicted of perverting the course of justice and fraud.
The 51-year-old falsely claimed he had been abused by a murderous Westminster VIP paedophile ring in the 1970s and 1980s.
Beech, who is himself a paedophile, was also sentenced for charges of voyeurism and possession of indecent images on top of the 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of fraud.
During the trial at Newcastle Crown Court, which ran for more than two months, jurors heard how Beech spun lie after lie.
At sentencing Mr Justice James Goss said to Beech: "I'm quite satisfied that you are an intelligent, resourceful, manipulative and devious person.
"You accused living persons of the highest integrity and decency of vile acts."
Beech made malicious and deceitful claims about a group of men, including 91-year-old Normandy veteran Field Marshal Lord Bramall, the late Lord Brittan and former Tory MP Harvey Proctor.
Diana Brittan, the widow of Lord Brittan, said her husband “was denied the dignified death that he deserved.”
Beech named several other high profile men as “abusers”, including former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath, late Labour MP Greville Janner, disgraced TV star Jimmy Savile, and MI5 and MI6 chiefs Sir Michael Hanley and Sir Maurice Oldfield.
The Metropolitan Police spent £2 million investigating Beech’s allegations, which he made over the course of hours of tearful interviews, but no arrests were made.
Beech reportedly showed no emotion as he was led from the dock.
