Martin Luther King Jr's nephew, Isaac Newton Farris Jr, has claimed Donald Trump is not racist - but may have done racist things without realising.
He made the comments in an interview with CNN's Don Lemon, where the pair strongly argued over the matter.
Farris Jr claimed: "The President I do not think is a racist, as we have traditionally known in this country.
"You can do some things and not be aware that you're doing them and I think that's largely the case with President Trump."
He said "the man apparently is not informed" and you can say or do "some racist things unbeknowingly" which "makes maybe what you said or done a racist act but it's not racism in your heart."
But Lemon hit back strongly, arguing that Trump "has an obligation to be informed" and "even some Klan members don't think they're racist."
The argument escalated, with Farris Jr responding "just because the President is not aware of his racism does not make him not racist. It just makes him racist and ignorant of the fact that he is racist."
