An eight-man brawl involving machetes has sparked a police hunt in Greater Manchester.

Officers were called to Car Bank Avenue in Atherton, near Wigan, shortly before 11am on Monday after they received reports of a crash between three cars.

Officers also received reports of men brawling in the streets with the blades.

Upon arrival, they found a man with minor injuries and the cars abandoned. The injured man did not require hopital treatment.

At present, the investigation continues with no arrests having been made. Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Atherton has seen a steady escalation in violent crime in recent months. Last November a member of the local police force was moved to post a message on Facebook to reassure the community following a spate of gang violence.
