talkRADIO’s Mike Graham speculated that Boris Johnson leaked the news of his affair to the papers to try and “clear out the skeletons in his closet”.
During a discussion with fellow talkRADIO presenter George Galloway, Graham, an ex-tabloid journalist, said that Johnson had always been a “figure of fun” on Fleet Street, and hinted at his connections with editors there.
“Fleet Street, what’s their take on Boris Johnson’s love life?” asked Galloway.
“If thee or me had a love life like Boris Johnson, we wouldn’t necessarily be regarded as likely leaders of Britain’s conservative party, would we?”
'The idea of a man who runs the country sneaking girlfriends in is odd'

News broke last week that Johnson and his wife of 25 years, Marina Wheeler, were to divorce, following an alleged affair Johnson had with 30-year-old Carrie Symonds, a PR executive and former communications chief for the Conservative Party.
“Well, it’s supposed to be the party of family values, I’m not quite sure where that all went wrong!” Graham responded.

“I said on my show that, I think I’m right in saying this, a divorced man has never occupied Number 10 Downing Street.
“Of course the idea that a man who has his proclivities and runs the country but occasionally sneaks girlfriends in the back door seems a bit of an odd thing to think about.”
'Corbyn has divorced, but there was no adultery'

He also pointed out that Jeremy Corbyn had divorced twice.
“However I must take slight issue with you on the whole moral guidance scenario, because you were saying that the very immoral Mr Johnson would be up against Mr Moral Jeremy Corbyn, who’s also been divorced twice,” he added.
Corbyn divorced his first wife Jane Chapman in 1979 and his second wife Claudia Bracchitta in 1999. He married his third wife Laura Álvarez in 2012.
“Yes he has, but there’s no evidence of adultery, in the way that Boris couldn’t quite say,” said Galloway of Corbyn.

“He hasn’t impregnated other people’s wives, for example. He’s actually quite boring, Mike!”
In 2009, art consultant Helen MacIntyre gave birth to a daughter, conceived during an affair with Johnson.
“You keep saying that, but he keeps going up in the polls and doing nothing. Obviously the new reality is to be as boring as possible,” Graham replied. “In which case Boris has got no chance."
In fact, the latest polls show the Conservatives slightly in the lead in the polls, with Labour having fallen behind by one point according to BMG and two points according to YouGov.
“But he’s always been a figure of fun in Fleet Street, some Fleet Street editors are very much in awe of him, and I think he put the story out there to get ahead of the bus as it were. I think he’s trying to clear out some of the skeletons in his closet.”
