Professional mixed martial arts fighter Marcus Kowal and his wife have offered to donate the heart of their 15 month-old son, who was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver.

On Sunday the toddler, Liam Mikael Kowal, was taken off life support when doctors declared him brain dead.

Kowal and his wife posted on Facebook that they would like to donate his heart, and ask if anyone knows a child who would benefit.

The incident happened on Saturday when a 72-year-old woman drove her SUV into the child and his 15 year-old aunt when they were crossing the road in California. Police photos show his stroller broken in half.

The Hawthorne Police Department claims the woman tried to flee after the accident, but witnesses chased her and blocked her vehicle in until police arrived.

Identified as Donna Marie Higgins, she was arrested for drunk driving and committing a hit-and-run.

An online fundraising page was set up to help the family, and more than 1,000 people have donated over $81,000 to help pay for medical charges and funeral costs.
