A leading Muslim commentator has responded to a caller who suggested the UK needs "its own Donald Trump" to fight terrorism on the James Whale show, as the fall-out from yesterday's attacks in Berlin and Ankara continues.
A caller called Paul had told James that, in the wake of the horrific events yesterday, the UK needs "a Donald Trump'" to defend the country against radical Islam.
Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, told James he was "lost for words" at Paul's declarations and vigorously disputed them.
"What happened in Berlin and Ankara is the work of terrorists who want to divide our communities," he told James Whale and Ash Gould. "Most British Muslims are hardworking people. We abhor terrorism.
"People like Paul need to engage with Muslim members of the community. We don't want to take over this country.
"We just want to raise our children to contribute something to the community."
