We need to speak to local communities instead of official groups and help different cultures integrate in Britain, says MP Khalid Mahmood.
A survey which included more than 3,000 Muslims has shown that they broadly share the views of the wider population and want to “fully integrate” with society. 93% feel a fairly or very strong attachment to Britain.
The Labour MP for Perry Barr told Yasmeen Khan: “Their concerns are the same as everybody else in the United Kingdom and that’s what’s good about it.
“In some instances you’ve got three generations living in one property, that makes it very difficult to integrate," he added. "The problem is the lack of housing in that respect.
“Instead of having [official] groups to talk to, why don’t we go directly and speak to people through local councils."
