The New York Police Department is working to identify two bodies which were found floating in Central Park ponds less than 24 hours apart.
On Tuesday, the NYPD were called to deal with a body found in the northern reservoir near 87th Street around noon.
The following morning, another was found in the southern reaches of the park, near an intersection between 59th Street and Fifth Avenue.
The corpses were floating because of an accelerating rate of decomposition as spring arrives and temperatures increase. Prior to this, the cold temperatures ensured they remained at the bottom of the bodies of water.
It is not known how they came to be in the waters in the park, and forensics teams are also working to identify the circumstances of the deaths.
