No one will begrudge Prince Philip scaling back his duties at the age of 96, not even staunch republicans, says a royal correspondent.
The Duke of Edinburgh will no longer carry on with official public engagements from autumn this year. The Queen has fully supported this decision.
Royal correspondent for The Sunday Times Roya Nikkhah told Julia Hartley-Brewer that Prince Philip said on his 90th birthday that he would start taking on less work, yet still kept a full diary of engagements.
She also believes the Prince has done a huge amount of work quietly with little coverage, but he will be most remembered for the Duke of Edinburgh award and supporting the Queen.
Julia added that whilst she disagrees with having a royal family, Prince Philip is by far her favourite royal as he tells it how he sees it.
