Local media claim the man who attacked a police officer outside Notre Dame cathedral in Paris pledged allegiance to Islamic State in a video uncovered at his home.
The incident on Tuesday afternoon saw shots fired at a man who assaulted a police officer - reportedly with a hammer - and resulted in a lockdown of the area around the building in the French capital.
While a police officer was injured in the attack, the man sustained wounds to the chest from the gunshots and was taken to hospital to receive treatment.
Le Figaro claims the investigation into the man's home uncovered a video where the attacker pledged his loyalty and allegiance to Islamic State.
Despite this, a spokesman for the French government, Christophe Castaner, in a radio interview said the man had given no sign of his radicalisation and the attack was believed to be "an isolated act."
