A Japanese nun in Argentina suspected of delivering deaf children to paedophile priests has handed herself into police.

Kosaka Kumiko was on the run for 33 days before she turned herself over to the authorities in Mendoza, west of Buenos Aires.

The 42-year-old is alleged to have delivered dead children to the priests in a case which resulted in the abuse of 27 children in the Próvolo institute, a school which specialised in teaching deaf children.

Two priests and three administrative assistants have been placed under arrest in relation to the case.

Kumiko has protested her innocence, saying "I only worked for good." However she has been ordered to remain in a women's prison in Mendoza.
