This image of Omran Daqneesh has made international news. Omran, just five years old, was rescued from the rubble of a building after a bombardment and taken to hospital. He survived, as did his family, who were trapped in the rubble.

On Wednesday, a Syrian boy travelled around the world on the back of an ambulance.

The image of five-year-old Omran Daqneesh sitting on the back of an ambulance, battered and blooded by an Aleppo bombardment, was published by media the world over, accompanied by a torrent of sympathy and outrage.

Yet in reality the image of Omran - who survived the bombardment - is just the latest in a litany of harrowing images to emerge from Syria's cataclysmic civil war.

Four and a half years ago the destruction began, after anti-government protests. More than 11 million people have been forced to leave their homes.

Recently an image of a boy, Omran Daqneesh who is 5 years old, in an ambulance (shown above) has been shared on social media, with many expressing their outrage. He was treated for head wounds on Wednesday.
