One person has died and seven injured after a freak accident on the opening day of a state fair in the US.
The attraction, called the Fireball, suffered a severe malfunction at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus.
Video on social media shows one of the seat rows attached to the ride - which swings like a pendulum and spins at the same time - breaking off from the main mechanism in mid-air.
Witnesses cited by local media report scenes of panic and chaos after the detached section of the ride plummeted to the ground.
Of the seven injured in the incident, three are said to be in a critical condition at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
The governor of Ohio, John Kasich, said he was "terribly saddened" by the horror accident at the fair.
In a statement, he confirmed that the ride and all other park attractions had been shut down until further safety tests were completed and announced a separate investigation into the Fireball incident.
