Scammers wishing to commit fraud on online dating sites have it far too easy - all they need is a fake profile picture and they've got a real chance of success.
That's according to online security advisor Scott McGready, who spoke to talkRADIO after figures showed that online dating fraud victim numbers reached a record high in 2016.
The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau said there were 3,889 victims of such scams last year, handing over a total of £39 million.
McGready told Yasmeen Khan: “It’s ridiculously easy, all you really need to do is get a fake profile picture.
“Even if you sit down with someone and tell them this person isn’t legitimate…sometimes they won’t want to believe you.
“[The criminals are] the lowest of the low, they're preying on someone’s basic human need to have acceptance and love."
