A couple and their child have been killed as their car collided with a train on a crossing in Normandy, France.

The collision took place just before 4pm local time yesterday (November 2), according to The Local.

The crossing where the incident happened in Bonneville-sur-Touques did not have an alarm or a barrier.

There were also 95 passengers on board the train at the time of the collision. According to the police there were no injuries on board.

A journalist from AFP who was on board the train at the time said that the crash did cause it to derail but it did not overturn.

It was travelling from Lisieux to Deauville.

Newspaper Ouest reported that the family who were killed, including a 10-year-old,were from Bas-Rhin which is in the east of the country.
