Police arrested a 79-year-old woman on suspicion of the murder of her 82-year-old husband.
The body of the man, named only as Kenneth, was discovered in the couple's bungalow last Tuesday (February 20), according to The Daily Mail.
His wife, Mavis Eccleston, was then arrested on Wednesday (February 22).
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "The woman has since been released under investigation as we investigate the circumstances of the man's death further."
He added that "specially trained officers" are helping the family with advice and support.
It is thought the victim had terminal bowel cancer at the time of his death in Cannock, Staffordshire.
Police were reportedly positioned outside their home for several days after the discovery of his body and asked for information from several neighbours.
A neighbour of the couple described the woman as a "cuckoo" and claims "last summer on some mornings she was outside pointing her stick, saying 'I am keeping an eye on you'."
Another person who lives nearby claimed: "She was a bit shouty, if anybody had deliveries she would be on the doorstep shouting."
Another said the man used to enjoy gardening but had recently had someone else do this due to losing strength, adding "in the last few months he got old quick."
