George Galloway believes people would still visit the UK without the royal family

George Galloway believes many people would still visit the UK even without the monarchy, as they would still view the royal buildings.

The debate as to whether we need a monarchy has raged for years, and fresh arguments have arisen after it was announced Buckingham Palace is to receive a £369million refurbishment.

The talkRADIO presenter said the money would be completely wasted, describing the palace as “an ugly building in the centre of London which the Queen hates and all previous monarchs have hated, and I’ve been in it and I can see why they hate it."

Our presenter continued by saying: “I know that these palaces and castles bring in revenue, but they could still bring in the revenue whether or not the Queen or a King were around.

"It’s the places and the history that the people are coming to see, it’s not as if they meet the Queen or Prince Phillip - if they met him, they'd probably get an insult."
