A bag with a pig head inside has been left outside an Islamic school in Queensland, Australia.
The bag left outside the Islamic College of Brisbane also had a swastika embossed on it, according to The Express Tribune.
Staff found the bag at around 6:30am today (July 19). Luckily this was before more than 1,000 students arrived.
It is claimed that CCTV footage shows two men travelling in a Subaru WRX dropping the bag off at around 6am.
The school has described the event as a hate crime. Police have been given a copy of the CCTV footage and are investigating the incident.
Ali Kadri, a spokesperson for the Islamic council of Queensland, said this type of incident is taking place due to the “demonisation of [Islamic] schools."
He also said the public must be informed about these incidents so that they are aware.
Former student Yassmin Abdel-Magied tweeted: “I'm so, so sorry we have to live in a world where kids can't go to school in Australia without being shamed and threatened.
“How is a parent supposed to explain to a kid why people hate them?”
The school is owned by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils which has recently been criticised for its finances and government funding arrangements.
