Porn ID plan an 'excuse' to control the internet

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

A former pornography business owner says a move forcing people to prove their age to watch online porn is an excuse to control the internet.

Speaking to talkRADIO's Julia Bradbury, Jerry Barnett said: "This has fairly little to do with pornography and has a lot to do with the British state gettings its claws in to control information on the internet.

"When they have done is built a very powerful censorship system along the lines of what we know China has been doing for years, and they have used pornography as the excuse to do it."

The new system put forward in the 2017 Digital Economy Act aims to prevent children from accessing inappropriate material online.

'Goodbye to the internet we have known'

However, Mr Barnett said the move would not prevent determined teenagers.

"To me this is a relatively minor part of a huge problem, which is that from next month the British state will have the power to block websites by the thousands, or by the millions if it wants, without going to court of Parliament," he said

"We're saying goodbye to the internet we have known for the past 30 years or so."
