Prime Minister for five minutes: Mike Graham

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

talkRADIO's Mike Graham has told Dan Wootton how he would run the country in the new feature PM for five minutes.

This is what would be on his agenda...

What is the first thing you would do differently to tackle the coronavirus crisis?

I would make sure to be slightly more honest about the science because I keep hearing they are following the science and my first question would be to the scientists: What on earth are you doing, why do you keep changing your minds?

Who is your deputy and chief of staff?

I’m going to bring in Marta Malagon, my producer, as deputy. She is quite frankly is the cleverest woman in the western world. I think chief of staff might have to be Katie Perrior, the woman who was Boris Johnson’s right hand when he was Mayor of London.

Which former UK Prime Minister and US President would you choose to advise you?

It’s got to be one great team, who between them managed to destroy the old Soviet Union. It’s got to be Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Regan.

Out of the current Cabinet, who would you keep in their position?

I think Rishi Sunak has played an absolute blinder, for someone who hasn’t been around for very long he’s showing himself to be a pretty wise head on some pretty young shoulders.

I would sack Robert Jenrick and George Eustice but keep Dominic Raab and Matt Hancock.

What happens to the BBC?

I’d say to them: “You have no right any longer to charge for a license fee, you are now a subscription only station.”

What happens to the Royal Family when you’re PM?

Harry and Meghan are going to be a stand-up comedy act for the rest of time.

I’m a great believer in the Queen but not so sure what happens after that. Charles is alright and William is alright, but I’m not entirely certain that I want to see the monarchy continuing after the Queen.
