Prince Harry to discuss royal future with Queen

Monday, January 13, 2020

Prince Harry will meet with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William today in an historic meeting to discuss the future royal role of him and his wife Meghan Markle.

It will be the first time Harry has met with his grandmother, father and brother since he and Meghan shared the bombshell news that they intended to step back as senior royals.

The talks will take place at the Queen’s private Sandringham estate in Norfolk while Meghan, who is in Canada with baby son Archie, will join on the phone.

In the shock announcement made last Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they wanted to become “financially independent” and planned to share their time between the UK and North America, while continuing to “fully support” the Queen.

It was reported that the Palace had not been consulted before the ground breaking statement was released on the couple’s Instagram and new officials website, with senior royals said to be “hurt” by their decision.

Today the family will discuss a range of issues such as how Harry and Meghan’s round-the-clock security will be funded, media access to royal events and the implacations of becoming financially independent.

Before the meeting, the royals will be given written proposals produced by their offices and others, including relevant government departments from the UK and Canada, where it is thought Harry and Meghan will establish a second home.

It is not known how long they plan to meet but it is understood that the Queen is expecting progress to be made.

Following the announcement, the Queen, Charles and William gave orders for their households to work with the Sussexes’ team to quickly find a “workable solution”, with a royal source saying the Queen wanted the issue to be resolved “at pace”.
