The Channel 4 Documentary which aired controversial video tapes made by Princess Diana with her former vocal coach has divided opinion.

The tapes featured the Princess speaking candidly about her childhood, how Prince Charles courted her, her public life and her troubled marriage, which culminated in separation from Charles in 1992.

Channel 4 has defended the airing of the documentary by insisting it gave her a voice ahead of the 20-year anniversary of her death on August 31.

Some columnists have said the Princess would have approved of the tapes being broadcast, saying they show her in a “golden light.”

Others have blasted the documentary, however, calling it “manipulative” and saying it “wronged Diana.”

Kensington Palace, the voice for Diana’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry, has not commented on the documentary.
