A leading rail commentator has slammed the Government over the latest round of strikes on the railways.
Christian Wolmar, a prominent supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, spoke to Julia Hartley-Brewer after staff at five train companies walked about this morning in an ongoing row about guards and safety on trains, led by the RMT union. In some areas, up to half of trains are affected.
Wolmar said that, while the RMT should come to an agreement, the Government must be prepared to negotiate.
"We have a Government that is absolutely reluctant to talk round the table with the trade unions," Wolmar said, adding that, if he was transport minister, he would bring all parties to the table.
