Protester storms stage over ‘fake Conservative’ Esther McVey

Protester Graham Moore ensured Esther McVey's launch was eventful

Monday, June 10, 2019

Esther McVey’s leadership campaign launch has been hijacked by a protester who branded her a “fake Conservative”.

Protester Graham Moore stormed the stage, grabbed a microphone and shouted “you are all fake news” to the crowd.

Spectators urged him to “get out”, and when several men stepped up to the stage to intervene he shouted “touch me and I’ll have you nicked.”

He then left the stage followed closely by the men who’d tried to stop him.

Outside the venue Mr Moore said he doesn’t support any of the leadership contenders.

Ms McVey could be seen laughing and clapping at the man as he shouted “fake Conservatives” at her and her followers.

She is one of several leadership hopefuls who launched her campaign in venues across London today.

The former work and pensions secretary promised to give public sector workers a pay rise and boost funding for policing and education.

Candidates must have put their name forward by 5pm this afternoon, and they’ll start addressing fellow MPs tomorrow.
