The UK's former ambassador to Russia will replace Sir Ivan Rogers, it has been reported.

Sir Tim Barrow has been named as Britain's new ambassador to the EU, just hours after Rogers stepped down.

Rogers' shock resignation was accompanied by a highly critical letter of resignation in which he criticised Britain's "muddled thinking" on Brexit and suggested UK officials lack negotiating experience.

A highly experienced diplomat, Barrow joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1986 and has also worked as the first secretary of the UK Representation to the EU.
