R Kelly denies holding women captive following Buzzfeed report

The singer has been accused of 'brainwashing' women

R Kelly has vehemently denied holding women captive in what has been described as an "abusive cult."

The statement, released by the singer's lawyer Linda Mensch, reads: “Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him.

"Mr Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations.”

A report by Buzzfeed News claims the R&B star "brainwashed" women who befriended him in order to further their own careers.

The news website spoke to three sets of parents who claimed they hadn't spoken to their daughters - all over the age of consent - in months.

The report claimed the singer had set routines for the women, with rules about what they could wear, eat, sleep, and what they were to do when engaging in sex with the singer.

If the rules were broken, the women in question were \llegedly verbally and physically punished by R Kelly.

One of the women in question denied she was brainwashed or immersed in a cult to the TMZ website, saying the story had gotten "out of hand."

R Kelly has been previously accused of sexual misconduct, but was never found guilty of any allegations against him.

A lawyer for the singer said R Kelly would work to clear his name.
