Police in Peru have opened in investigation into a case of multiple rape which was reportedly broadcast on Facebook. 

The incident in question took place last Thursday, when the footage was put onto the social network.

The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations urged the public prosecutions officer in San Roman near to the city of Puno to expedite the process.

The 15-year-old victim was urged to go to an Emergency Women's Centre. The authorities have yet to discover her identity or that of her attackers.

Facebook has vowed to tighten control over what goes up on the network after a number of incidents where offensive content has been posted. 

One of the most shocking was the video posted by Steve Stevens, who filmed himself murdering an old age pensioner on Easter Sunday.
