The RMT union has suspended its strike planned for November 3 against Southern Rail.

The union tweeted the news and says the decision was made at the request of the British Legion. The date is also London Poppy Day.

Today is also the last day of a 72-hour-strike by the RMT union. The dispute is over the role of conductors.

Further strikes are planned for the middle of November, and beginning of December.

Meanwhile the Aslef union has announced a ballot on their train drivers about possible industrial action.
