A surfer who spent 32 hours lost at sea off the coast of Scotland has been found alive.

Matthew Bryce went missing after he went out to surf off the coast of the St. Catherines area of Argyll.

The 22-year-old failed to return from Machrihanish beach near Campbeltown, prompting a search by the coastguard.

Just when hope of retrieving him had begun to fade, Belfast Coastguard announced he had been found 13 miles off the coast around 7:30pm on Monday.

Bryce had clung to his surfboard in the time he'd been missing which, alongside his wetsuit, coastguard officials said had saved him.

The 22-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Belfast to be treated for hypothermia.
