You might think it's quite odd to hold a wedding for animals, but Manchester Sea Life Centre doesn't seem to think so.

It held a wedding for two green sea turtles named Cammy and Ernie, and yes, a real priest really did attend, The Metro reported.

There was of course also a three-tier wedding cake and even bouquets - although they were made of broccoli, not every bride's first choice.

Witnesses had to wear wetsuits, but it didn't dampen their spirits as a banner was displayed underwater which said "just married."

The sea life centre has said the wedding is all part of a real attempt to get the two turtles to mate, as they are part of an endangered species.

Beforehand those working at the centre had noticed that 12-year-old Ernie was potentially ready to mate, whilst 16-year-old Cammy had been at a sea life centre in West Dunbartonshire, where staff knew she needed a male turtle for her eggs to be released.

Emma Whittle, a "bridesmaid" and turtle expert said all are celebrating the marriage and "there wasn’t a dry eye in the house."

Details of the honeymoon have not been released.
