'Should've just bought Nigel Farage a blue holder' - Many angered over UK passports becoming blue

British passports will become blue rather than burgundy

Friday, December 22, 2017

The Home Office has announced that British passports will be blue after Brexit - and it seems many are red with anger at the news.

The blue-and-gold design was first used nearly 100 years ago and has been described as "iconic," according to the BBC.

The colours will return from October 2019 and will be given to people renewing or applying for a new one.

The burgundy passports were never enforced on the UK by the EU - the UK just chose to go with the colour almost 30 years ago.

Many have been quick to point this out, whilst also suggesting changing the colour may be a hassle and is not even a victory for Brexiteers.

Others have joked that we should just have given all the Brexiteers blue passport holders to keep them happy, whilst others think the blue passport is "ugly."
