The Spice Girls have announced that they will embark on a reunion tour in 2019.

The band made the announcement on their newly-created Twitter page, releasing a mock news broadcast video in which Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton confirm details of their tour.

Fifth band member, Victoria Beckham, will not join the tour, which kicks off in June next year in Manchester.

Appearing on the Mike Graham show to discuss the announcement, talkRADIO's Dan Wootton said Beckham's absence from the tour could be due to a new £30 million investment in her fashion business.

"It seems like the biggest reason is that she has just had £30 million pounds' worth of investment in her fashion business which has been financially failing now for some years.

"The idea, I think, for those investors that she was going to be rather than focussing full-time on turning the fashion business around, but actually being up on stage with the Spice Girls, that was too hard for them to stomach.

'Too miserable to take part'

"These ladies are young enough, they look amazing still, they're very, very talented. Why should they not make more of the Spice Girls just because one member is too miserable to take part?"

The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and have not performed together since the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012. They last toured together 10 years ago.

Tickets for the Spice World tour will go on sale on Saturday at 10.30am, with Jess Glynne confirmed as the supporting act.
