Steve Bannon contradicts Donald Trump in unexpected interview, blasts far-right

The interview comes at a time when the White House Chief Strategist's fate is uncertain

Steve Bannon has given a surprising interview which contradicts several official lines of Donald Trump.

The US President, in the wake of the attack in Charlottesville, gave a press conference on Tuesday where he insisted both sides were to blame.

Now, in an interview with left-wing magazine American Prospect, Bannon called the far-right a "collection of clowns" and "losers" whose views were completely "irrelevant."

He spoke to Robert Kuttner, the outlet's co-founder and co-editor, in an interview which Kuttner says was completely unexpected and hadn't been sought.

In it, the White House Chief Strategist contradicts the official line on "fire and fury" if North Korea continues to threaten the United States.

Bannon told Kuttner there was no "military solution" for the situation and that North Korea "got" America.

The interview comes at a time when many are speculating in regard to Bannon's fate in the White House, which is uncertain due to calls from both the left and the right to remove him.
