Steve Bannon will find it easier to push his agenda from outside the White House and he may “go to war” with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, according to a columnist who previously worked closely with him.
Trump's former strategy guru, the self-styled doyen of the alt-right, was fired from the White House and is now going to return to his job as head of news website Breitbart.
Andre Walker, a columnist for the New York Observer, told Richard Madeley: "I actually think he’ll find it easier outside the White House pushing his agenda. He’s too single-minded to win hearts and minds.
"The long and short of it is, this is really, Jared and Ivanka will seek to strengthen their position within the White House because of Bannon going. When people talk about 'by the way, Bannon will go to war with somebody,' they’re talking about Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump."
He thinks Bannon "really, really struggled to connect with people in the White House" and this is partly because he "will tell you to your face what he thinks of you."
Another issue is "his views, the policies he believes in, are very much out of kilter with the Republican establishment and way out of kilter with Washington in general."
Walker also gave his views on Donald Trump. He believes the President thinks “his ability to just say 'this is fake news' he feels always gets him off the hook. I’m not sure that’s always true.
"I think he’s frustrated by the fact he can’t control things in the way that he was able to control them when he was just a businessman.”
The columnist added that he thinks neither the UK or America knows how to handle Trump's state visit, but when he does visit the UK he will go to Windsor as "he knows that going to London will be an absolute circus."
