Stockholm: Man armed with knife stabs police officer in busy square

The officer's injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening

A man armed with a knife has attacked a police officer in a busy square in Stockholm.

The attack took place in the Medborgarplatsen square following a suspected murder, according to The Local.

Details of the incident are still emerging, although some reports suggest the attacker has been arrested and a second officer sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident.

A spokesperson for Stockholm Police said: “We can confirm that a police officer has been injured at Medborgarplatsen. One person is arrested.

"The degree of the police officer's injuries is unclear as is how the officer was injured. At the moment it’s unclear how it happened."

Footage from the scene shows an extensive area cordoned off, with a heavy police presence.
