Storm Caroline snow set to bring fresh chaos to UK

UK braced for more disruption with planned snowfall from Storm Caroline

Up to 20 centimetres (eight inches) of snow could fall over the course of Monday

Monday, December 11, 2017

Storm Caroline continues to maintain a grip over the UK, with homeowners, schools and commuters bracing for more snowfall in parts of the country.

Forecasters have said showers of snow will continue to fall in parts of Scotland, Wales, the Midlands, the north of England, and Northern Ireland.

There is the potential for up to 20 centimetres (eight inches) of snow as the day continues.

Users of social media in areas as far south as Birmingham were posting videos of blizzards online, showing the full extent of Storm Caroline.

While areas in the south of the UK received manageable levels of snow, the Highlands faced huge disruption amid 90mph gales, closing roads and leaving thousands of homes – around 18,000 - without power.

Road users are advised to check the forecasts before they travel, while the Met Office has warned of icy roads being a potential hazard.
