A Russian journalist has released a series of images apparently showing the inside of the Russian base decimated by last night's US airstrike.

The images, published by Russia 24 journalist Evgeni Podubni, show various planes lying destroyed in their hangars but suggest the damage is not massive.

Podubni, who put the images on Instagram, suggests up to nine planes were wrecked by the bombardment.

However the reporter claims that not all the hangars were destroyed, as some of them are reinforced with concrete. The landing strip was also left untouched.

Podubni has also released a video showing the aftermath of the strikes.

Russia has condemned the strikes ordered by Donald Trump's administration, saying they will jeopardise US-Russian relations. Meanwhile Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad's regime has said Mr Trump was sucked in by false propaganda.

However the attacks have received the backing of several Western leaders.
