A Syrian teenager has been arrested in Germany suspected of plotting a new suicide attack on Berlin.
The 17-year-old was arrested by special forces on Tuesday morning in the state of Brandenburg, according to regional interior minister Karl-Heinz Schroter.
Schroter said the man had been arrested following collaboration with authorities in other federal states, and claimed he had expressed his intention to commit an attack via messages to his mother on WhatsApp.
The official added that the suspect had been housed in a home for minor refugees.
The Potsdamer newspaper claimed the teenager arrived in Germany in 2015. It also said he left his family in order to pursue jihad.
Berlin is still recovering from a terrorist attack in December 2016, as a truck was deliberately driven into a Christmas market killing 12 people and injuring several others.
