A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting on a Birmingham street.
James Teer had been playing football with his friends when he was shot in the head near his family home on August 8.
West Midlands Police said a man remains in custody and the motive for the attack is “still unclear”.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths said the victim’s parents “can’t understand” why anyone would want to harm their son.
“This arrest is a major step forward in our investigation but we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward,” he said.
“The motive is still unclear so I ask anyone who knew James or has heard any conversations that might help explain what happened to get in touch.”
He added: “There will be people in the community who know or suspect why this has happened.”
Police said a “dark coloured car” was seen in the area at the time and is understood to have been involved in the shooting.
Erdington MP Jack Dromey called the killing a “tragic waste” and said his family “are absolutely devastated”.
Mr Teer is the third person to be killed in gun crime in Birmingham this year.
Anyone with information is urged to contact West Midlands Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
