A London teenager has admitted plotting to bomb high-profile targets in London.

Haroon Syed, from Hounslow, pled guilty at the Old Bailey to plotting bomb attacks in the British capital, having researched targets like Buckingham Palace and an Elton John concert in Hyde Park.

The concert took place on September 11 last year - the 15th anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks in America.

The 19-year-old was caught after British Security Service officers posed as a fellow extremist named Abu Yusuf and offered to help him obtain weapons for his planned attack, taping the conversation.

The court heard that he searched online for places to buy weapons such as explosives and a suicide vest, as well as carrying out research into past terror attacks and the history of Islamic State.

He admitted he had thought of Oxford Street as a target in a conversation with the officer.

Syed was arrested on September 8. When officers came to arrest him, he revealed that the password on his phone was I.S.I.S.

He will be sentenced in June, following the completion of a psychiatric report and a probation.
