One of Britain's foremost journalists has said Britain has no chance of securing a "pick n mix" Brexit in its negotiations with the EU.
As the cabinet's Brexit divisions continue, Peter Foster told Julia Hartley-Brewer the EU will not allow us to negotiate a bespoke compact which retains the best bits of our existing EU membership.
"The fundamental idea of the UK having a 'pick n mix' system is just not going to work," Foster told Julia.
"[In the EU's eyes] We need to be worse off out than in. There is a reasonable imperative for them to make us worse off out."
Foster added that there is a sense of bewilderment in Brussels over the Prime Minister's domestic stance. "The promises Theresa May makes to unite her cabinet bear almost no relation to what's negotiable in Brussels," the interviewee said.
