Two houses destroyed and five injured after explosion in Manchester

Two houses in Manchester have been destroyed after an explosion this morning.

Emergency services are currently at the scene in Cecil Road in Blackley, just a few miles from Manchester City's Etihad stadium.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion, however five people have been injured in the blast, the Manchester Evening News said.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they are at the scene, but have not given any further information, it is not known how serious the injuries are. 

Those in the area have compared the scenes to a bomb going off.
