An Uber driver has been arrested after being accused of assaulting and kidnapping an 18-year-old woman in Toronto.

Sukhbaj Singh was arrested on Monday (May 22), a day after the woman made the allegations.

The woman told police Singh made advances towards her, and tried to engage her in inappropriate conversation, The Express Tribune reported.

She says the driver tried to keep her inside the car against her will and drive her to another location, although she eventually managed to escape.

The Guardian said he is now due in court in early July.

Uber has responded to the incident by saying: “What’s been described is unacceptable and is not tolerated on the Uber app.

"We immediately removed this driver’s access following this report and will provide any information to law enforcement that would be helpful for their investigation.”
