Uber to hear ruling on appeal over employment rights

The company will hear the result of the appeal lodged after two drivers won a landmark ruling

Friday, November 10, 2017

Uber will discover the outcome of an appeal made against the ruling on employment rights of their drivers this Friday.

Last year, two drivers employed by the company – James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam – won a landmark ruling after arguing they were employees who deserved minimum wage, paid holiday, and sick pay.

Uber appealed the decision, saying it could deprive their employees of valued personal flexibility.

Judge Jennifer Eady QC will hand down her ruling on the company’s appeal later on Friday.

This is not the first appeal the company has lodged in recent times.

Uber has begun an appeal process after Transport for London said it would not renew the firm’s operating licence.
