Douglas Carswell has reportedly been in secret talks to rejoin the Conservative Party ahead of the 2020 general election.
The MP for Clacton, known for being UKIP's only representative in Parliament, is claimed to have spoken to Tory MPs to suss out whether he would be welcomed back in Theresa May's Party, which he quit in 2014.
The news comes as his party considers whether or not to expel him, following claims by former leader Nigel Farage that Carswell blocked him from receiving a knighthood.
In an article for The Telegraph, Farage claimed the MP was "actively seeking" to hurt UKIP.
Carswell denies this accusation, but he still potentially faces a formal investigation over the matter which could see his membership of the party terminated.
