The US Department of Homeland Security is considering an extension to its electronic device ban to include all US bound flights from Europe and the UK, reports claim.

Currently the ban only affects flights travelling to America from Turkey and some countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

The rules state any device larger than a standard mobile phone is not allowed in hand luggage, this includes items such as laptops, tablets and cameras.

A decision on an extension to the ban is expected in the next few weeks as the agency holds discussion with airlines, according to CBS.

A statement from the Transportation Security Administration said: “We have not made any decisions on expanding the electronics ban.

“However, we are continuously assessing security directives based on intelligence and will make changes when necessary to keep travelers safe.”
