Hillary Clinton will have a major battle on her hands in the debate against Donald Trump.
This is according to historian Bill Bernard, the author of Dixiecrats and Democrats, who said that the expectations facing both candidates are different.
"So often these debates are a question of expectation," he told Julia Hartley-Brewer. "The expectation for Trump is so extraordinarily low.
"If he can simply survive for 90 minutes, not show his total lack of policy matters and not make an outrageous and often untruthful statements, he will be at least the equal, if not the victor.
"For Hillary Clinton, it's a very difficult task facing her to avoid this."
