A 27-year-old American woman has been handed a sentence of eight months' house arrest for groping a female fellow passenger on a flight.

Heidi McKinney was sentenced in Oregon for drunkenly molesting the female passenger on an Alaskan Airlines flight in May 2016.

Already drunk when she boarded the flight to Las Vegas from Portland, she tried to force the 19-year-old passenger to drink alcohol she'd brought onto the flight.

McKinney touched the girl's breasts several times, leaving her hands on the 19-year-old's chest.

She also straddled the woman, telling her of her desire to have sex and calling her "poor" when the 19-year-old rejected her.

McKinney was arrested upon landing in Las Vegas, and charges were filed.

The 27-year-old, upon appearing in the Portland court, pled guilty to assault with intention of committing a felony.

The maximum sentence for this charge is a total of 10 years' imprisonment, coupled with a $250,000 (£190,000) fine.

In addition to her eight months of house arrest, she has also been placed on probation for three years.
